As a political newcomer, I didn’t feel right asking voters within the 5th District for contributions prior to the primary. I made the decision to self-fund my campaign through the primary. I felt it was enough to just meet as many voters as possible, present my position on the issues and not ask for money when I was through. Our district, especially the rural areas, has been hit extremely hard during the continuing economic downturn. People are struggling financially just to make ends meet.
